The most notable ones, the League of Nations, Communism, Nazism, the United Nations and the European Union on a more modest scale. All failed.He believes the world in moving in the wrong direction. He points out that the Second World War mobilized entire societies around shared perils and experiences by creating models of equity, solidarity and sacrifice, transformed public attitudes in ways that endured into peacetime. However since the early 1980 this spirit declined. Until that time people made money from producing and exchanging goods rather than from money itself.With global financialization,"The future has been privatized, monetized and into a source of profit." The politicians have become policy makers, who listen in the first place to private interests and their lobbyists.This development has eroded the capability politician to lead their countries. The author sees sovereignty as good, if I understand the author correctly, when political leaders lead with the right values as he referred to be the situation after the end of the Second World War. Now, political leaders have given up lead their countries because they think they are "powerless." He writes. “The fundamental nineteen century's insight that effective internationalism rests on effective nationalism remains pertinent" to which be added "an urgent need of renovation". The author does not describe what this renovation should be other than return to the values of after the war of equity, solidarity and sacrifice for he common good. Without such a "revolution" is demanded by the citizens he claims, "politicians will not change".These are thoughts to be taken seriously. My hope is that at some political leaders will emerge that can change the spirit rather than waiting for citizens demanding it. That demand is unlikely to develop spontaneously, unless there is a financial collapse with the second great depression or the third world war.
